Classification of offences - punishment, bailable and cognizable details
(1) In relation to offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the details shown in the second and third columns against the section number in the first column indicate only the gist of that section.
(2) In this schedule:
(i) "Magistrate of the First Class" and "Any Magistrate" do not include Executive Magistrates;
(ii) "Cognizable" means "a police officer may arrest without warrant";
(iii) "Non-cognizable" means "a police officer cannot arrest without warrant".
